The blocking is so lazy, and the shots feel extremely uninspired. Goblet of Fire: The Story is rad, but off of the heels of POA, the film feels borderline amateur.

Also, all of the tied up loose ends add up to some of the most emotionally satisfying and rich moments of the series A very interesting choice for the aesthetic. I love how Yates makes the cinematography almost feel like War photography throughout. The pacing and structure of part 1 is my favourite of the series, and I love how it kind of feels like the antithesis of a summer blockbuster, with it being extremely quiet, contemplative, and character driven.

they're in the title, and the movie spends valuable, limited time introducing them, but ultimately they're completely unnecessary to the larger story. Oh, and removing that choice also completely removed the significance of the Hallows. i can't say that a movie that removes that moment did the source material justice. The most important moment in the entire book was Harry choosing to let Voldemort get the Elder Wand while he went after the Horcruxes. In the book Harry faced a choice, to take the difficult path (Horcruxes) or the easy one (Hallows), and in that choice proved himself greater than both Dumbledore and Voldemort, who died due to their pursuit of the Hallows. The build up to the release of the book plastered "Horcruxes or Hallows" everywhere, because that was the whole point. and more importantly they completely removed what made Harry special. They completely removed the significance of the Hallows by moving up Voldemort's acquisition of the wand, because they needed a movie ending. For me, I'm not too concerned as to their faithfulness to the original material, as I judge the books and movies entirely separately.

This one marked a more restrained and mature approach that persisted in the next two films.įinally the story is great too and full of fun and suspense, with the gang enjoying life as teenagers, neglecting their studies for sports and parties contrasting well with the investigation into the Horcruxes and the general buildup of dread that leads perfectly into the next installment. I feel Order of the Pheonix to be a bit uneven at times, and with the humour a little too over the top. Additionally the introduction of Slughorn (Jim Broadbent) marked another great addition to the roster of characters.ĭavid Yates also feels more in control of the pacing and tone of the film. Although the actors had fit well into their characters by this point, I feel it's the film where the main cast flex most of their acting muscles.

However, the one I have enjoyed the most has to be The Half Blood Prince. I've been re-watching them all recently and have been pretty struck by just how good they are (I hadn't seen most of them since I first saw them in the cinema).
